A luxurious desert oasis, the award-winning, five-star Sails in the Desert is iconic in every way.
Transfer from Ayers Rock Airport to the multi award-winning Sails in the Desert, a luxurious desert oasis. Enjoy an afternoon at leisure before departing for our incredible welcome dinner this evening, a most memorable outback experience. Tonight, we view the incredible art installation, Field of Light before enjoying the iconic Sounds of Silence dinner. Against the vast desert, this light installation features more than 50,000 spheres that bloom as darkness falls under a sky brilliant with stars.
Overnight: Sails in the Desert
This morning we take a 4WD tour to Mount Conner, which is situated on a vast cattle station, called Curtin Springs Station. Here we will learn about the fauna of the Red Centre and discover an ancient inland salt lake.
Following some free time this afternoon, we depart to view the incredible sound and light show at Uluru, Wintjiri Wiru^ which brings to life the ancient Mala story of the Anangu people, a story passed on for thousands of generations. With the use of ground-breaking technology, choreographed drones, lasers and projections illuminate the night sky. Launched in May 2023, it is the first time an experience of this magnitude has been performed anywhere in the world. Upon return, we will enjoy dinner at the hotel.
Overnight: Sails in the Desert
This morning we will fully appreciate the unsurpassed splendour of Central Australia from an incredible perspective, one only a lucky few are priveleged to experience. Marvel as we fly above Uluru at sunrise, a never to be forgotten sight! Equally impressive are the domes of Kata Tjuta and the vast expanse of Lake Amadeus, the state’s largest salt lake containing a staggering 600 million tonnes of salt. Aerial sights of Kings Canyon will also take your breath away before landing at Kings Canyon Resort. Here, journey through magnificent desert oaks, cruise over rolling red sand dunes, and take in the vast views and roaming wildlife as we transfer in 4WD’s to Kings Canyon. Enjoy a gentle and flat scenic walk along the canyon floor, between the two colossal canyon walls. Gaze in awe as the towering rock walls glow in different hues of red broken by the craggy gorge, lush vegetation and imposing cliffs.
After our return flight back to Uluru, we enjoy lunch at the hotel before transferring to the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre where we learn about Anangu Culture and the park’s natural environment.
Overnight: Sails in the Desert
Free time this morning may find you relaxing or perhaps discovering the delights of the Gallery of Central Australia and Yulara shopping precinct nearby.
This afternoon, transfer to Walpa Gorge where we will walk between the mighty conglomerate domes that make up Kata Tjuta and learn how they have evolved over millions of years. Return to Sails in the Desert where you will enjoy dinner this evening.
Overnight: Sails in the Desert
This morning we travel towards Uluru, its vast, ancient presence slowly rising from the desert dunes as dawn spills its first golden light across the land. In the cool of early day, immerse yourself in the living culture, timeless geology and fragile desert environment on a moving guided walk around the base of this sacred monolith. As the journey comes to an end, we share warm farewells with newfound friends, carrying lasting memories of this spectacular ‘Red Centre’ odyssey before transferring to Ayers Rock Airport for the journey home.
