Day 1: Arrive Hobart

Transfer from Hobart Airport to the Henry Jones, Australia’s first dedicated art hotel, a fusion of history and modernity, art and design. Enjoy the facilities of this remarkable hotel or explore this picturesque harbour city at your leisure. Your welcome dinner at award-winning Old Wharf Restaurant, situated on Hobart’s historic Franklin Wharf, will showcase the best of Tasmanian produce.

Day 2: Bruny Island

A spectacular discovery awaits on Bruny Island today where dramatic landscapes are matched by delicious island produce. Explore Bruny’s wilderness, breathtaking coast, heritage and the Cape Bruny Lighthouse, Australia’s southernmost lighthouse. We learn for ourselves how the island’s local produce is as refreshing as its beaches, cliffs and wildlife as we sample cheese, wood-oven bread, seafood, fudge and honey, all island specialties.

Day 3: Hobart - Freycinet

There is time to wander through the famous Salamanca Markets this morning before taking a historic walking tour of Battery Point.Heading north, we pause to enjoy a wine tasting and lunch at acclaimed Frogmore Creek Winery before visiting the charming town of Richmond. Rich in history and architecture, it was once an important convict station linking Hobart with Port Arthur. Today, it is known for housing fascinating landmarks, including Australia’s oldest bridge completed in 1825. Continuing north, we see Spiky Bridge at Swansee, which was built by convicts in the mid 19th century from field stones laid without mortar. A tasty pause at Kate’s Berry Farm, famed for their cool climate berries grown without the use of chemicals. Sample the homemade delights, especially the berry ice-creams! Arrive at our award-winning accommodation overlooking the stunning turquoise and azure waters of Great Oyster Bay. Freycinet Lodge is magnificently set offering incredible panoramic coastal views in all directions with The Hazards mountain range as your backdrop.

Day 4: Freycinet

Cruise today on Wineglass Bay, renowned as having one of the top ten beaches in the world. Eyes peeled as we look out for Humpback and Southern Right whales on their migration north. Explore the rugged coastline with towering pink granite cliffs plunging into the Tasman Sea and discover a coast dotted with sparkling white sand beaches before anchoring at Wineglass Bay. Absorb the peace of this remarkable bay and its magnificent surroundings while enjoying lunch including fresh Freycinet oysters, East Coast’s renowned wines and artisan brews. Transfer to Cape Tourville Lighthouse to view exceptional coastal vistas from the boardwalk including the Hazards and the Nuggets. Return to the Lodge via the picturesque Honeymoon Bay, a beautiful little bay rich in natural wonder.

Day 5: Freycinet - Launceston

A private feeding of Tasmanian Devils starts the day before driving to the acclaimed Josef Chromy Wines, listed as one of the Top 10 Cellar Doors in Australia and winner of Launceston’s Most Outstanding Visitor Experience. Here we will learn their interesting history and explore the wine making process from grape to glass. Following a tasting, lunch today is in the Josef Chromy hatted restaurant with matched wines. This evening, head north to Low Head for a delightful Penguin Parade.

Day 6: Launceston

We begin with a private tour of the fascinating Queen Victoria Museum, home to natural sciences displays, transport and railway memorabilia, blacksmith workshops, and the iconic Launceston Planetarium. Following a visit to historic Evandale, we cruise the Cataract Gorge, which is the result of violent earthquakes that rattled Tasmania some 40 million years ago. Our farewell dinner this evening is at Stillwater, one of Tasmania’s most awarded restaurants, set in a beautifully restored 1830’s flour mill on the Tamar River.

Day 7: Depart Launceston

After breakfast, transfer to Launceston Airport. Farewell new friends as we take away memories of an incredible East Coast Tasmanian Sojourn.

Level of Fitness Required – Easy Going

These journeys are not physically demanding unless you want them to be. They include easy guided walks, which are mainly on flat ground. There will be times when you are required to board a launch for shore excursions. You must be able to walk up to 1 kilometre unaided and will not need any foreseen assistance throughout the journey. For all clients to fully enjoy this travel experience, excellent health and mobility is required by all.

We strongly urge you to consider the fitness rating before selecting your preferred journey, in respect for your fellow travellers. Bill Peach Journeys reserves the right to refuse travel to any client whose fitness level is below the recommended rating.
