Spend 7 days exploring the stunning lakes and fiords of the South Island of New Zealand by road, air and boat. This beautiful programme visits Wanaka, Te Anau and Queenstown, which are considered some of the most picturesque areas of the South Island. Be sure to have your cameras at the ready!

We will have the opportunity to discover the iconic UNESCO World Heritage Site Milford Sound from many aspects. We enjoy a private scenic flight over the dramatic landscape marvelling at the many rainforests, waterfalls and towering Mitre Peak below. We also enjoy a cruise on the historic sailing ship ‘Faith’ through the Fiordland National Park and visit the fascinating Milford Sound Underwater Observatory. Definite bucket list experiences!

Day 1: Arrive Wanaka

Arrive into Queenstown and transfer from the airport to your accommodation in Wanaka. Tonight’s welcome dinner will be hosted by your Journey Director and is the perfect opportunity to meet your fellow travellers.

Day 2: Wanaka

This morning’s adventure offers Wanaka’s finest lakeside scenery plus an exciting and fun 4WD journey through a real alpine mountain farm. Encounter red deer, Angus cattle, sheep and horses, a unique insight into Wanaka’s rich history, heritage and scenery. Enjoy a relaxing afternoon visiting some of Central Otago’s best vineyards, where we will sample some of the very best food and wine the region has to offer.

Day 3: Wanaka - Te Anau

Today will be a highlight for many! We board our own private plane for a scenic flight over Milford Sound, New Zealand’s most stunning natural attraction. Landing in Te Anau the adventure continues, as we board the elegant and historic sailing ship ‘Faith’ for an afternoon cruise exploring Lake Te Anau and Fiordland National Park.

Day 4: Milford Sound
Today we visit the unforgettable Milford Sound. See up close and firsthand the beauty of this pristine scenic destination. Milford Sound sits within Fiordland National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site and is considered a jewel of the park, a hidden secret waiting to be discovered. We also visit the Milford Sound Underwater Observatory to gain a fascinating view of the underwater environment.

Day 5: Te Anau - Queenstown

This morning we go underground to experience the mysterious world of the luminous glowworms. Te Anau’s glowworm caves are astonishingly beautiful. Deep inside the caves, beyond the roar of the water, you will be taken by small boat into a silent hidden grotto inhabited by thousands of glowworms, unique to New Zealand. After lunch, enjoy a scenic drive to Queenstown.

Day 6: Queenstown

Today relax and enjoy a luxurious private cruise on Lake Wakatipu. With a length of 80 km, it is New Zealand’s longest lake. Lake Wakatipu is renowned for its scenic beauty, being surrounded by breathtaking mountains. The Remarkables mountain range lies along its south-eastern edge. Enjoy a gourmet BBQ as you cruise this beautiful lake. This afternoon enjoy a walk through Arrowtown – a historic gold mining town. Tonight enjoy a farewell dinner.

Day 7: Depart Queenstown

After a leisurely breakfast, transfer to the airport. Say farewell to new friends and take away memories of another delightful Bill Peach Journeys Sojourn.

Pre Tour

Flights from your home port to Queenstown are not included in the journey price. Should you require flights to / from Queenstown, we can provide a competitive quote on airfares and pre and post tour accommodation.

Level of Fitness Required – Moderate

This journey is more challenging and designed for the more active traveller who is looking to venture off the beaten path. To fully participate in all activities, the traveller must be able to walk up to 1km on even surfaces unaided, travel by four-wheel drive vehicles along ungraded roads and walk up steps unassisted.  It is a requirement that all children are able to swim confidently.

We strongly urge you to consider the fitness rating before selecting your preferred journey, in respect for your fellow travellers. Bill Peach Journeys reserves the right to refuse travel to any client whose fitness level is below the recommended rating.

Travel Insurance

We strongly recommend that you purchase travel insurance to cover you against such things as personal illness or accident, cancellation, loss of baggage etc. Please make sure you carry a copy of your Travel Insurance policy with you at all times.
