Sydney - Carmen Opera Performance

After breakfast at our hotel, we visit Elizabeth Bay House, once considered ‘the finest house in the colony’ which was set within a garden of the most remarkable extravagance and fancy.

With commanding views over Sydney Harbour, Elizabeth Bay House still arouses our delight and astonishment. Its elegant rooms and fine proportions, sweeping staircase and lavish furnishings reveal the tastes and aspirations of its original owner, Alexander Macleay, the second most important public official in colonial Sydney behind the Governor.

We transfer to the beautiful Centennial Parklands for a delightful lunch, not only one of Australia’s best known and loved Parklands, but one of its most historic.

Originally a swamp and then set aside as land for the water source for Sydney, Centennial Park was reconstructed as a public park and opened in 1888. Sir Henry Parkes’ vision was to create a “People’s Park” in which the citizens of Sydney could “take in the air” away from the town centre. Today it is considered one of the most popularly visited and vibrant green spaces in Australia.

Early evening, transfer to the Botanical Gardens for your magical evening of opera. What grander setting could there be for a stunning opera performance than Sydney Harbour itself, awash with the light of the city and the Sydney Opera House silhouetted against the setting sun.

Written by French composer Georges Bizet, Carmen is set in southern Spain and tells the story of the downfall of Don José, a naïve soldier who is seduced by the wiles of the fiery gypsy Carmen. A sensual, vivid drama ensues!

Your platinum tickets to this grand opera performance will include dinner and first class hospitality service at interval, complemented by spectacular seating as the stage is filled with soaring voices and glittering pageantry.
