Day 2: MONA

After a breakfast this morning you will take a short stroll to Brook Street Ferry terminal for your 30-minute ferry ride to Mona travelling in the Mona Pit which gives you access to an exclusive lounge bar and private deck. The Museum of Old and New Art is the largest privately funded museum in Australia, established within the Moorilla Winery on the Berriedale Peninsula in Hobart.

The unconventional yet fascinating museum houses antiquities, modern and contemporary art from the David Walsh collection, as well as a diversity of exhibitions for you to explore as you wander the museum at leisure.

Balance of the day at leisure.

Today experience a full day tour to Bruny Island. Cruise alongside some of Australia’s highest sea cliffs, beneath towering crags and drift up close to listen to the awesome ‘Breathing Rock’. Enter deep sea caves, pass through the narrow gap between the coast and ‘The Monument’ and feel the power of nature at the point where the Tasman Sea meets the might of the Southern Ocean.

Join in the search for the abundant coastal wildlife such as seals, dolphins, migrating whales and seabirds. The highly trained interpretive guides love what they do – they work hard to ensure that the experience is fun, enjoyable, entertaining and informative.

The custom-built yellow boats are ideal for viewing the spectacular coastline and wildlife of Bruny Island. Covered open-air tiered seating means an excellent all-round view and connection with the environment. The boats are safe, comfortable and gentle on the environment due to their fuel efficiency, low emission, and quiet operation.

Overnight: Henry Jones Art Hotel (B,L)

After breakfast transfer by private vehicle to Saffire Lodge. The Freycinet Peninsula extends south-eastwards from Tasmania’s coastline and is a fully protected national park, including the internationally acclaimed Wineglass Bay. Saffire is located on the inside of the gentle curve of sandy coastline that joins the peninsula to mainland Tasmania. Saffire overlooks the wide expanses of Great Oyster Bay, where migrating whales and dolphins come to play; calamari and squid in-season spawn in the rocky outcrops; local farms produce fresh, succulent oysters in some of the world’s cleanest waters; and fishing boats and trawlers bring in their daily catch of rock lobster, scallops, and deep sea fish, dripping and salty-sweet straight from the ocean.

The dominant view from Saffire’s every window is the pink-hued granite of the peninsula’s Hazards Mountains, providing a spectacular and ever-changing backdrop from morning to nightfall. This afternoon, enjoy a two-hour walk to the top of the Hazards – rewarding you with a spectacular view over Wineglass Bay. Or you may wish to do a wine tasting or learn about Tasmanian Devils.

Overnight: Saffire Lodge (B,L,D)

Today enjoy a stunning cruise of Wineglass Bay onboard the Lodge’s purpose-built vessel, Saffire, to discover the internationally acclaimed Wineglass Bay. After taking in the breathtaking scenery, you will stop off at one of many white sandy beaches that are dotted around the Freycinet coastline. Stretch your legs with a short, guided walk, or try your luck fishing with our skipper. Enjoy a sumptuous lunch before a leisurely cruise back into Great Oyster Bay.
