Day 1: Arrive Casablanca

Our journey commences today upon arrival into Casablanca, one of the largest and most important cities in Africa, both economically and demographically. Transfer to your luxury accommodation, the Four Seasons Hotel Casablanca which offers a sleek resort-inspired escape. With magnificent Atlantic views the hotel blends cool sand-architecture with modern Moroccan elegance. The name Casablanca evokes thoughts of bustling markets, romance and adventure in a seaside setting, an image that the 1943 Humphrey Bogart film conveyed to cinema-goers. An early evening dinner tonight at Rick’s Cafe.

Day 2: Casablanca

Today we explore fascinating Casablanca, Morocco’s most famous city that will draw you to its heart. It’s a cosmopolitan place packed with art galleries, fine restaurants and top fashion designers. At the same time it’s full of striking architecture such as the Mahkama du Pacha. Casablanca is a cultural melting pot, a progressive city that welcomes visitors with open arms.

Day 3: Casablanca - Fez

This morning’s sightseeing begins with an excursion around the port city of Casablanca including the Habbous traditional district that was built by the French Protectorate in the 1920s in the spirit of an old Moroccan medina but with modern amenities. We visit the Hassan II Mosque; it is amongst the largest in the world and can house up to 25,000 worshipers. Journey by road to the historic ancient city of Fez, an authentic example of traditional Moroccan-Andalucian architecture enjoying lunch at a local vineyard en route.

Day 4: Fez

Today you will take a step back in time to the Middle Ages as you explore Fez, the largest living medieval medina-city and the cultural heart of Morocco. The medieval Medina is a UNESCO World Heritage Site which we will visit after breakfast. We will also explore Fez’ ancient monuments including the Al-Qarawiyyin library, the oldest library in the world, Fez medersas (coranic schools), its ancient mosques and medieval palaces. After lunch, continue to the Jewish neighbourhood called Mellah and learn about its history in Morocco. This evening we enjoy sundowner drinks on the rooftop of Palais Amani before a delicious dinner.

Day 5: Fez

After breakfast, we take part in an immersive cultural workshop of brass etching or book binding. This workshop will either explore your etching skills or teach you the step-by-step technique to craft your own handmade leather journal with long stitches. The afternoon is at leisure to shop for delicate handicrafts in the narrow streets of the medina. Before Marrakech, Fez remains the Kingdom’s capital for crafts.

Day 6: Fez - Volubilis - Rabat

Today we continue overland to Volubilis, home to the largest and most well preserved Roman ruins in Morocco and visit the Roman Vestiges. With its Triumphal Arches, Basilicas and Capitols, the Volubilis skyline is peppered with examples of Roman architecture.

We enjoy a delicious Moroccan lunch made with locally grown and produced products at a private house in Moulay Idriss. Next we visit the Imperial City of Meknes, known as the “Moroccan Versailles” and founded at the end of the 17th century. Take a walk around its medina and the Square of Ruins. Admire the city’s famous door Bab Mansour as well as its medersas, palaces and the Grand Mosque. Late afternoon sees us moving onto Rabat checking-in at the magnificent five-star Sofitel Jardin des Roses.

Day 7: Rabat - Marrakech

This morning, we embark on a city tour that highlights Rabat’s cultural influences and the superbly preserved relics of its Moorish past. We start our tour of historical Rabat at the Roman archaeological site Chellah and take in the views of the Bouregreg river. We continue to the Hassan Tower and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V before transferring to Marrakech. We check in to the exceptional La Mamounia Palace, a legendary hotel that is part of the fabric of Marrakesh.

Day 8: Marrakech

We start the day with a tour of the Ochre City. We discover the Old City which houses the souks and the Modern City including the French-heritage quarter. We also explore historic Marrakech which was the former Almoravid capital. Step into legends from an ancient past, still lingering on the delicate handicraft of medersas, hidden palaces and monumental tombs. There will be free time to shop in the mesmerising souks, where you will find exceptional carpets, essential oils and many other wonders. Dinner this evening will be at Dar Moha where we dine on sophisticated Moroccan cuisine.

Day 9: Marrakech

This morning we visit the famous Jardin Majorelle, a haven of peace and colour full of cacti and other exotic plants which was restored by the late Yves Saint Laurent. We visit the interesting Berber Museum before lunch at the local restaurant Amal which is dedicated to women empowerment. An evening to remember as we enjoy live music performances and stunning belly dancing with dinner.

Day 10: Marrakech - Atlas Mountains

After breakfast we transfer to the awe-inspiring stone desert of Agafay famed for its barren grandeur and views beyond to the Atlas Mountains. We carry on to the Atlas Mountains with a stop at Lalla Takerkoust Lake, an impressive dam built in the time of the French protectorate, the Lalla Takerkoust Lac provides Marrakech and its region with electricity. This afternoon, we drive to Kasbah Tamadot, the award-winning mountain retreat owned by Sir Richard Branson staying in luxurious rooms with views over the Atlas Mountains.

Day 11: Atlas Mountains

Enjoy a late breakfast in your tent with sweeping views on the dunes before exploring this remarkable area. Located in Asni, a little village and marketplace in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains, it is an area inhabited by the friendly Berbers. We will embark on an easy trek and discover the stunning countryside and panoramic views of the Atlas Mountains. Our farewell dinner this evening is in this remarkable location.

Day 12: Atlas Mountains

Today we have the option to enjoy one of the many resort activities, from a relaxing spa treatment, to a hands on interactive cooking class or a visit to one of the many local villages.

After breakfast transfer to the airport to board your flight home taking with you fond memories of an unforgettable Moroccan adventure.

Level of fitness required: Moderate

This journey is more challenging and designed for the more active traveller who is looking to venture off the beaten path. To fully participate in all activities, the traveller must be able to walk up to 1km on even surfaces unaided, travel by four-wheel drive vehicles along ungraded roads and walk up steps unassisted.

We strongly urge you to consider the fitness rating before selecting your preferred journey, in respect for your fellow travellers. Bill Peach Journeys reserves the right to refuse travel to any client whose fitness level is below the recommended rating.
