Day 1: Arrive Hanoi

Arriving into Hanoi, a private transfer awaits to transport you through to your luxury hotel. Meet your Journey Director and fellow travellers at a welcome dinner this evening.

Day2 : Hanoi

With ochre-coloured colonial buildings, tree-lined boulevards, and scenic lakes, Hanoi is full of charm. Begin the morning with a visit to the Presidential Palace and hear about the man who led Vietnam’s campaign for independence from French colonial rule, Ho Chi Minh. See the One Pillar Pagoda built by an emperor to honour the goddess of mercy. The afternoon is at leisure to explore this remarkable city or relax at the hotel.

Day 3: Hanoi

Today we begin with a visit to the Ngoc Son temple set on a tiny island on the picturesque Hoan Kiem Lake. Hear the legend of an emperor and how the lake took its name. Take a breezy cyclo ride through the Old Quarter’s 36 streets, named for the products that were sold from their shops. Today, vendors on Tin and Bamboo Streets still sell the same wares. End your day with a delightful water puppet show, a traditional art that is still being performed today.

Day 4: Hanoi - Ha Long Bay

This morning we board a seaplane for the short yet incredibly scenic flight to Ha Long Bay, known for its emerald waters and thousands of towering limestone islands topped by rainforests. Embark your junk, the elegant Paradise Prestige, and cruise to some of Ha Long’s most beautiful caves. This afternoon we enjoy a cooking demonstration.

For a memorable dinner, dress up with the ship’s captain in traditional Bao Dai dress.

Day 5: Ha Long Bay

Wake up to the majestic beauty of Ha Long Bay and perhaps enjoy some morning exercise by practicing the ancient art of Tai Chi on the sundeck. Afterwards, enjoy a hearty international breakfast menu as you cruise to Ti Top Island. After viewing the incredible Karst formations of Ti Top, we move on to Tung Sau Pearl Farm to see how these beautiful creations are harvested.

Next, we cruise to Cua Van floating village to visit the local community via a bamboo boat. Learn about how the locals live in this unique location. We spend another evening aboard the Paradise Luxury, dining with your fellow passengers and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of Ha Long Bay. Lunch and dinner are served on board.

Day 6: Ha Long Bay - Hoi An

After breakfast, we transfer to Hanoi and our onward flight to Da Nang. Arriving in Da Nang we transfer to our riverside accommodation, the Anantara Hoi An Resort for an afternoon at leisure.

Day 7: Hoi An

The Lifestart Foundation was founded in 2000 by an Australian and runs programs which are designed to effect a generational change. Enjoy a traditional painting and drawing class and a traditional lantern-making class before returning to Hoi An. Between the 17th and 19th centuries, Hoi An was a prosperous trading port. Today, this World Heritage-listed ancient town boasts well-preserved buildings allowing visitors a glimpse of its illustrious past. This afternoon is at leisure, time to explore or relax at our hotel.

Day 8: Hoi An

This morning visit the local produce market before cruising along the Thu Bon River to the Red Bridge Cooking School. Here you will tour the school’s herb gardens and enjoy an informal cooking lesson. Your chef will explain the secrets of popular Hoi An specialties.

Day 9: Hoi An - Hue

Today we drive along one of Vietnam’s most beautiful stretches of road, the Hai Van Pass from Hoi An to our classic colonial style hotel, La Residence Hue Hotel & Spa situated on the fabled Perfume River for a day at leisure.

Day 10: Hue

Our day starts with a trip to the ancient walled Citadel containing the former Imperial Palace. The Citadel was closely modelled along the lines of the Forbidden City in Beijing. After that, we will set out on a tour to see the final resting place of the Emperors by visiting Khai Dinh Royal Tomb and Thien Mu pagoda.

Day 11: Hue - Ho Chi Minh

Transfer this morning to the airport for our short flight to Ho Chi Minh, a city that never sleeps with over eight million inhabitants and four million motorbikes. We arrive at our luxury accommodation, the centrally located Intercontinental Asiana Saigon Hotel named Vietnam’s Leading Hotel. An afternoon at leisure to relax or explore this vibrant city.

Day 12: Ho Chi Minh

Today visit historic landmarks including Notre Dame Cathedral and Central Post Office, designed by the French architect, Gustave Eiffel. Continue your visit to the former Presidential Palace, and the War Remnants Museum for a vivid insight into the war years. We will also see the Saigon Opera House and Tan Dinh market.

Day 13: Mekong Delta

After driving south, board our private boat for a glimpse at river life. Make stops along the way to provide glimpses of local cottage industries, including factories for the production of coconut candy and puffed rice, products that provide a living for the river people.

Day 14: Cu Chi Tunnels

Today takes us to the Cu Chi Tunnels which were dug in 1948 for the guerrillas to hide in, protected from French air and ground sweeps then later used during the Vietnam War. The afternoon is at leisure to enjoy some last minute shopping before our farewell dinner this evening.

Day 15: Depart Ho Chi Minh

After a morning at leisure, we transfer to the airport for our flight home taking with us memories of an incredible South East Asian adventure.

Level of fitness required: Moderate

This journey is more challenging and designed for the more active traveller who is looking to venture off the beaten path. To fully participate in all activities, the traveller must be able to walk up to 1km on even surfaces unaided, travel by four-wheel drive vehicles along ungraded roads and walk up steps unassisted.

We strongly urge you to consider the fitness rating before selecting your preferred journey, in respect for your fellow travellers. Bill Peach Journeys reserves the right to refuse travel to any client whose fitness level is below the recommended rating.
