Johannesburg - Cape Town

After breakfast we board our onward flight to Cape Town. On arrival at Cape Town Airport, you will be met and transferred to the luxurious The Table Bay Hotel, Cape Town a 5-star hotel situated at the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront. Relax this afternoon or explore this remarkable development. Tonight there will be a formal welcome dinner.

Cape Town

Our touring today begins with a trip up Table Mountain, one of the world’s natural wonders (weather permitting). In the city itself, we will visit the Company Gardens, the South African Museum and the Castle of Good Hope. The castle was built between 1666 and 1679 by the Dutch East India Company and is the oldest surviving colonial building in South Africa.

Cape Town

Today we visit Robben Island, a World Heritage Site best known as the location of Nelson Mandela’s incarceration for almost 18 years. Ex-political prisoners conduct the tours around Robben Island and through the prison. is afternoon we take to the skies by helicopter to see the beauty of this city from a unique perspective. Enjoy stunning views of Table Mountain and the Atlantic Seaboard.

Cape Town - Franschhoek

This morning, depart for the Cape Winelands beginning with a visit to Stellenbosch, a charming 17th century town famous for its Cape Dutch architecture. Next experience Franschhoek, South Africa’s French capital followed by Paarl – “the pearl of the Cape”, one of the Cape’s first farming districts. Finally we arrive at our intimate and exclusive accommodation.

Today we board the Rovos Rail, stepping back in time to the grace and elegance of the golden age of train travel, when time was leisurely and the finer things were savoured. After enjoying lunch on board we visit Matjiesfontein known for its splendid historical buildings and colourful past.

We continue our train adventure in five-star excellence, enjoying striking scenery on our way to Kimberley. A gem awaits passengers as they approach the “Big Hole”, one of the world’s most iconic diamond mines. With digging commencing in 1871, today, the famed site owns the title of largest man- made excavation in the world and features a colossal 214-metre hole from which over 2722 kilograms of diamonds have been extracted. We will also visit the Diamond Mine Museum before reboading to enjoy afternoon tea in the wood panelled Edwardian sophistication of the Rovos Rail.

Rovos Rail - Johannesburg

After breakfast we disembark what is widely considered to be the world’s most luxurious train. We transfer to Soweto, a cluster of townships on the south western flank of Johannesburg. We will visit the Hector Pieterson Memorial and stop at the Mandela House Museum before checking into our hotel, The Michelangelo Hotel which is a renaissance themed masterpiece. A Leading Hotel of the World, every exquisite detail of the Michelangelo has been tended to, from the wallpaper to the eye-catching art work and sculptures. This afternoon we tour Johannesburg before enjoying dinner in this incredible hotel.

Johannesburg - Kruger National Park

After breakfast, we fly to Hoedspruit then transfer to Kapama Southern Camp. Set in the prestigious Kapama Private Game Reserve, this luxurious 5-Star accommodation is an exclusive safari destination. The northern Drakensberg mountain range provides a majestic backdrop to this contemporary private game lodge.

An African safari is without doubt one of the most soul- enriching experiences you can have in a life time. During our stay you will experience 4WD early morning and late afternoon game drives in search of the “Big 5” and more in their wide open wilderness. This afternoon enjoy your first game drive with the qualified rangers and trackers.

Kruger National Park

Encountering these majestic animals up close is seeing mother nature at her most impressive. Today we go in search of lions, leopards, hippo, rhino, antelope, giraffe and buffalo. After an early morning game drive, enjoy time at leisure before heading out on another drive late afternoon.

After breakfast, we fly on to Livingstone and transfer to the Victoria Falls Hotel, the epitome of colonial grandeur close to one of nature’s greatest spectacles, the mighty Victoria Falls.

Victoria Falls

A guided tour of the majestic Victoria Falls and encompassing nature reserves is an awe-inspiring experience. Known as “ e Smoke that unders”, tons of water plunge over a chasm that is nearly 2km wide falling to the Zambezi River below. We will see the best view points of this iconic waterfall, one of the seven wonders of the world. A sunset cruise this evening along the Zambezi spotting rhino and crocodile will stay with you forever.

Level of fitness required: Moderate

This journey is more challenging and designed for the more active traveller who is looking to venture off the beaten path. To fully participate in all activities, the traveller must be able to walk up to 1km on even surfaces unaided, travel by four-wheel drive vehicles along ungraded roads and walk up steps unassisted.

We strongly urge you to consider the fitness rating before selecting your preferred journey, in respect for your fellow travellers. Bill Peach Journeys reserves the right to refuse travel to any client whose fitness level is below the recommended rating.
