Day 1: Arrive Santiago

Upon arrival you will be met and escorted to the luxurious Singular Hotel for a day at leisure. This evening meet your Journey Director and fellow travellers for welcome drinks and canapés.

Day 2: Santiago

After breakfast we enjoy a tour of Chile’s capital and largest city which sits in a valley surrounded by the snow-capped Andes and the Chilean Coast Range. We will visit the colonial grandeur of Plaza de Armas, take in the panoramic views at San Cristóbal Hill and enjoy the vitality of the bohemian Bellavista District. Tonight there will be a formal welcome dinner.

Day 3: Santiago

We drive to Casablanca Valley, famous for its white wines which are greatly influenced by the cool breeze and morning mist of the Pacific Ocean. After a tour and tasting, we will enjoy a 4 course pairing lunch. Tonight we enjoy Santiago’s best steaks!

Day 4: Santiago - Puerto Varas

Today we fly from Santiago to Puerto Montt and transfer to our hotel set on Lake Llanquihue boasting views of Osorno and Calbuco Volcanoes. We will tour Puerto Varas exploring its German-style architecture and Vicente Pérez Rosales main square. We explore the port city of Puerto Montt from its panoramic views to its neoclassical cathedral, built from wood in the 19th century which overlooks Plaza de Armas square.

Day 5: Puerto Varas - Bariloche

Depart Puerto Varas and transfer to Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park where we visit the Saltos del Petrohué and appreciate the volcanic rock formations. Sail across Lake Todos los Santos taking in breathtaking views of the Osorno and Puntiagudo volcanoes. After lunch in Peulla we sail next across Lakes Frias and Nahuel Huapi, finally transferring by coach to our spectacularly set hotel.

Day 6: Bariloche

Cameras at the ready as we take in one breathtaking Patagonian view after another. From Península San Pedro we will enjoy impressive vistas of Lake Nahual, Lake Moreno and the extinct stratovolcano Tronador from the top of Campanario Hill enjoying the stunning views from the chairlift ride.

Day 7: Bariloche - Buenos Aires

We fly commercially to Buenos Aires today and transfer to our luxurious accommodation, the Alvear Palace. Considered “the Pearl” of South America, Buenos Aires has an intense cultural life.

Day 8: Buenos Aires

A blend of European style and Argentinian passion, the city’s neighbourhoods are small and highly individualised. In the San Telmo district, Spanish colonial design couples with Italian detailing and graceful French Classicism. La Boca’s pressed tin houses are painted a rainbow of colours and muralists have turned the district’s side-streets into avenues of colour. We also explore Plaza de Mayo and Avenida de Mayo before enjoying a stirring tango dinner show this evening.

Day 9: Buenos Aires - Iguazu Falls

We fly commercially to Iguazu Falls today and transfer to our luxurious accommodation magnificently located across from this natural wonder. This afternoon we enjoy a tour to the Argentinian side of the falls followed by a cruise along the Lower Iguazu River marvelling at the ‘Devil’s Throat’ and incomparable San Martin waterfall.

Day 10: Iguazu Falls

Iguazu Falls extend an impressive semicircular front of 2,700 metres long where 800 metres are on the Brazilian side and 1,900 metres are on the Argentine side. Today we explore the Brazillian side for incredible views of this natural marvel’s 275 separate cascades.

Day 11: Iguazu Falls - Rio De Janeiro

After breakfast, we fly on to Rio De Janeiro and explore this bustling city. We will see the famed Copacabana and Ipanema beaches and visit Sugarloaf Mountain by cable car to its summit for stunning views. We will learn fascinating facts about Rio’s history, modern-day heritage and everyday life in Rio.

Day 12: Rio De Janeiro

Today we will marvel at the sheer scale of the iconic statue of Christ the Redeemer as it towers over Rio below. Standing 30 metres high, it is located at the peak of the 700-metre Corcovado mountain. Afternoon at leisure to explore or relax.

Day 13: Rio De Janeiro - Lima

Departing incredible Rio today we fly commercially to the capital of Peru, Lima. Founded in 1535 by the Spanish conqueror Francisco Pizarro, it was named the ‘City of Kings’.

Day 14: Lima

This morning tour the old town of Lima, visiting the Plaza Mayor, which has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. After lunch at Aliaga Mansion, visit the fascinating Larco Museum, located in a unique 18th century mansion, which features the finest gold and silver collection from ancient Peru and the famous archaeological collection.

Day 15: Lima - Sacred Valley

After an early flight from Lima to Cuzco we transfer to the Sacred Valley of the Incas. On the way, we visit the renowned colourful Pisac Market before lunch at Hacienda Huayocccari. The balance of the day is at leisure.

Day 16: Sacred Valley

We head north today to the town of Maras then on to the nearby Moray Inca ruins, noted for the mysterious terraced circular depressions. After lunch, we visit Ollantaytambo, the site of one of the great Inca fortresses and sacred areas in the Urubamba Valley, a testimony to magnificent Inca masonry.

Day 17: Sacred Valley - Machu Picchu

Today we board the luxurious Hiram Bingham train and upon arrival, transfer to the ruins of Machu Picchu. We will explore this ancient city’s ruins and feel its pulse as you visualise the lives of the priests, craftsmen and servants who inhabited this seemingly uninhabitable citadel.

Day 18: Machu Picchu - Cuzco

The morning is yours to spend at leisure further exploring this magnificent citadel at your own pace. After lunch at the Lodge, we reboard the Hiram Bingham train for Cuzco. We will indulge in cocktails and dinner on board as the Andean scenery passes.

Day 19: Cuzco

Today we discover the fascinating heritage of the once mighty capital of the Incan empire. Sights include the San Pedro Market, the Shrine of Koricancha (Temple of the Sun) whose walls were once lined with solid gold and the Cathedral, which contains over 400 paintings of the classical Cusquena schools. We head up to the hills overlooking the city to visit the spectacular Sacsayhuaman fortress with its gargantuan boulders before enjoying an afternoon at leisure.

Day 20: Depart Cuzco

Following breakfast at the hotel transfer to Cuzco Airport to board your flight home taking with you life-long memories of an unforgettable South American odyssey.

Flights from your home port to South America are not included in the journey price. Should you require flights to and from South America, we can provide a competitive quote on airfares and pre and post tour accommodation in South America, at the commencement and conclusion of your journey.

Level of fitness required: Moderate

This journey is more challenging and designed for the more active traveller who is looking to venture off the beaten path. To fully participate in all activities, the traveller must be able to walk up to 2km on even surfaces unaided, travel by four-wheel drive vehicles along ungraded roads and walk up steps unassisted.

We strongly urge you to consider the fitness rating before selecting your preferred journey, in respect for your fellow travellers. Bill Peach Journeys reserves the right to refuse travel to any client whose fitness level is below the recommended rating.
