Transfer from Sydney to the Blue Mountains where we tour and lunch at the beautiful Mt Tomah Gardens. The only botanic gardens located in a World Heritage site, the Greater Blue Mountains, the garden is home to a collection of plants from the cooler southern hemisphere. Mount Tomah provides a wonderful habitat for the local fauna, in winter the large proteas provide honeyeaters a welcome treat. We enjoy a tour of the formal gardens and lookout with a horticulturalist to answer all of your flora questions. We transfer to the Parklands Resort Mudgee in time to freshen up for your welcome dinner, as always, a special event hosted by your Journey Director.

Overnight: Parklands Resort Mudgee or similar

This morning visit Gulgong, famous for being featured on our ten dollar note and where the buildings and streetscape present a remarkable intact and picturesque example of a nineteenth century town. We will be met by a local historian who will bring to life an interesting history of this town including visits to the Pioneers Museum and the Henry Lawson Centre. We return to the Mudgee region which has long been recognised as a fertile and picturesque valley where grapes, stone fruit, nuts and olives thrive. The wine industry was established in the 1850’s by German vignerons, descendants of whom still live in Mudgee. Today there are over 40 cellar doors in Mudgee and today takes us to Gilberts Family Wines for wine and cheese tasting followed by lunch. An afternoon at leisure before joining your fellow travellers for dinner at The Zin House, Kim Currie’s award winning, hatted country restaurant serving organic and biodynamic produce most of which is grown on the property.

Overnight: Parklands Resort Mudgee or similar

Today we head to the Orange region, renowned for fine fresh produce available throughout its 23 villages. The altitude, cool climate, soil structure and topography are the unique points of difference which distinguish wines from the Orange region. Explore Millthorpe, a picturesque and historic village set amidst gently rolling hills classified by the National Trust celebrating its 150th anniversary this year. We next enjoy a tour of the Emmaville Cottage which is a tangible link to the period when Australian iconic poet Banjo Patterson was born. A historic tour of Orange this afternoon. Dinner at one of Orange’s finest restaurants.

Overnight: DeRussi Suites Orange

Today we explore the central west of New South Wales first visiting Eugowra, famous for the 1862 robbery of 84.56kg of gold by bushranger Frank Gardiner and his gang. Noted for its fine parks and gardens and its large and gracious public buildings, our next destination is Forbes and the Carrawobitty Rural Retreat. Finally, today we visit Canowindra and the fascinating Museum of Fishes as we learn about fossil finds from the Devonian period – The ‘Age of Fishes’. Long before the dinosaurs the mighty rivers of the Central West teamed with bizarre ancient fishes – fish with armour shells, fish with lungs, and huge predators with jaws like crocodiles. This evening we enjoy the fine produce and wines of Orange at our farewell dinner.

Overnight: DeRussi Suites Orange
