Day 1: Arrive Cairns

Transfer from Cairns airport to the five-star Pullman Reef Hotel nestled by Trinity inlet. Tonight there will be a welcome dinner at the hotel hosted by your Journey Director.

Day 2: Cairns - Tinaroo Via Waterfalls Circuit

This morning our exploration of the Cairns Hinterland begins. World Heritage-listed forests and unusual wildlife that call these mountain highlands home are just part of the allure and magic to be found as we travel through Little Mulgrave & Gadgarra  National Parks. We explore the breathtaking Waterfalls Circuit, including dramatic Zillie Falls, volcanic Malanda Falls and picturesque Ellinjaa Falls spotting platypus and secretive tree-kangaroos along the way. Returning to Tinaroo, we visit the Mungalli Creek Bio-Dynamic Dairy and the bustling township of Atherton which had its beginnings as a timber workers camp and staging post between the tin mines and the coast.

Day 3: Tinaroo Lake & Surrounds

This morning we drive to Crater Lake National Park and view the impressive Lake Eacham. We then continue to serene Lake Barrine learning about one of the most complex and amazing rainforest eco-systems in the world during a wildlife cruise around the volcanic crater brim. After lunch at the renowned Lake Barrine Teahouse, we will visit the iconic Cathedral Fig Tree and view the Mobo Creek Crater. Starting at the Tinaroo Dam spillway, we will enjoy the scenic Danbulla Forest Drive, winding around the lake through rainforest and plantations of pine and eucalypt trees.

Day 4: Tinaroo – Mareeba - Cooktown

Departing Tinaroo we visit the Mareeba Heritage Museum which hosts a wide variety of incredible exhibits that teach us about the local area’s rich and fascinating history. We head to Cooktown stopping for afternoon tea at the Palmer River Roadhouse site of the original gold rush.

Day 5: Cooktown

Time today to explore this historic town – visit the James Cook Museum with its treasure trove of memorabilia to learn of Cooktown’s discovery and eventful history, the Botanic Gardens and Interpretive centre. Visit Grassy Hill Lookout for breathtaking views.

Overnight: Sovereign Hotel

Day 6: Bloomfield Track – Port Douglas

Today travel along the famed Bloomfield Track enjoying breathtaking coastal vistas and lush tropical rainforests. Visit Cape Tribulation, one of the most picturesque tropical regions on the far north coastline. Cruise on the waters of the Daintree River and view the variety of bird, animal and plant life. Transfer to the luxurious Silky Oaks Lodge, the ultimate eco lodge in an unrivalled riverside location on the beautiful Mossman River.

Day 7: Mossman Gorge

Today experience the wonders of the World Heritage-listed Daintree Rainforest and discover its pristine waterfalls, mountains and vivid flora and fauna. The Mossman Gorge is a part of the traditional lands of the Eastern Kuku Yalanji people. Afternoon at leisure  in Port Douglas before farewell dinner.

Day 8: Depart Cairns

After a leisurely breakfast transfer to Cairns airport. Say farewell to new friends and take away fond memories of a delightful Queensland sojourn.

Flights from your home port to Cairns are not included in the journey price. Should you require flights to and from Cairns, we can provide a competitive quote on airfares and pre and post tour accommodation in Cairns, at the commencement and conclusion of your journey.

Level of Fitness Required – Easy Going

These journeys are not physically demanding unless you want them to be. They include easy guided walks, which are mainly on flat ground. There will be times when you are required to board a launch for shore excursions. You must be able to walk up to 500 metres unaided and will not need any foreseen assistance throughout the journey. For all clients to fully enjoy this travel experience, excellent health and mobility is required by all.

We strongly urge you to consider the fitness rating before selecting your preferred journey, in respect for your fellow travellers. Bill Peach Journeys reserves the right to refuse travel to any client whose fitness level is below the recommended rating.
