From breathtaking views over Auckland city to sampling delicious local produce from Bay of Plenty farms, Māori cultural experiences, luge and gondola rides in Rotorua and exploring the enchanting world of Hobbiton, as seen in The Lord of the Rings movies, the children will be captivated, educated and engaged while the adults join in on selected activities and at times enjoy more adult pursuits such as wine tastings. Transfer from Auckland airport to the centrally located 5 star Pullman Auckland. Your welcome dinner will be hosted by your Journey Director tonight, a perfect chance to meet your fellow travellers and the Leisure Leader. We will also visit the viewing platform at Sky Tower to enjoy the magnificent sights of Auckland from the city to the Hauraki Gulf and beyond.

Overnight: Pullman Auckland


After breakfast, we drive to Tauranga, a beautiful city resting on the sandy shores of the Bay of Plenty. The Bay of Plenty, named by Captain James Cook, is acclaimed for its fertile land and ideal growing conditions. Today we will visit local growers across the region and sample their delicious produce. Dinner and Kids Club at the hotel this evening.

Overnight: Trinity Wharf Tauranga


Today we drive to Whakatane, the “Sunshine Capital” of New Zealand and considered to be the artistic and cultural hub of the district. We will enjoy a cultural experience and learn the amazing story of Mataatua Wharenui, before being welcomed on to the marae and into the sacred house by way of the ancient ritual of pōwhiri. Marvel at the intricacy of the carved representations of the great chiefs of Ngāti Awa, before two of the most famous traditions of the tribe are brought to life in Hiko: Legends Carved in Light – the award-winning Mataatua visitor experience.

This afternoon we visit Julian’s Berry Farm for afternoon tea to enjoy delicious freshly-picked, frozen and pick-your-own berries, along with a range of other local produce and products made with Julian’s berries. Dinner at a local restaurant followed by Kids Club at the hotel this evening.

Overnight: White Island Rendezvous


This morning we depart for an eco-adventure to White Island – New Zealand’s only active marine volcano! Discover an ever-evolving landscape of fumaroles, lava bombs, crystals, bubbling mud and the steaming acid lake. Transfer to Rotorua in time for an afternoon swim followed by dinner in Rotorua.

This morning we tour the Rotorua lakefront and Government gardens then head out to the Waiotapu Thermal Wonderland to view boiling mud pools, colourful hot springs, fumaroles and Lady Knox geyser as she erupts! Today we will lunch at the award-winning Stratosfare restaurant atop Mount Ngongotaha. We ride the Gondola to the Skyline summit and experience spectacular views of Lake Rotorua, the city, and steaming geothermal vistas. Here we will enjoy locally sourced quality New Zealand produce while marvelling at the breathtaking view! Children will then enjoy the luge while the adults join in a winery tour and tasting.

Return to the hotel for an afternoon of fun in Kid’s Club before departing for a very special evening where you will be enriched with a deeper understanding of Māori traditions. Enjoy a mouth-watering banquet of authentic Māori cuisine at a traditional Hangi, marvel at the breathtaking beauty of the geothermal valley under lights and experience an intimate concert performance.

Overnight: Millennium Hotel, Rotorua


Today we visit “Middle-earth” at the Hobbiton Movie Set, the enchanting “Shire” that featured in The Lord of the Rings movies. Tantalise the senses in the sights, smells, sounds and tastes of the home of the Hobbits as we enjoy lunch and a tour. Return to Auckland in time for Kid’s Club followed by our farewell dinner this evening.

After a leisurely breakfast, we transfer to the airport. Saying a fond farewell to new friends, we take away memories of an amazing New Zealand family adventure!

About Intergenerational Journeys

Our Intergenerational tours are short break journeys to incredible destinations for families – Grandparents, parents and their children.  The Leisure Leader will provide afternoon activities and supervision to entertain the children allowing some quiet time for the adults. In addition, the Journey Director will perform their usual duties of ensuring a seamless travel experience for the entire journey. Children must be 8 years or older to join this journey.

Fully inclusive

This journey includes accommodation, all meals as specified, touring throughout, transfers and services of a dedicated Journey Director as well as a Leisure Leader dedicated to the children’s activities.


The coaches that we use for the ground component of this journey are fully air-conditioned.

Pre Tour

Flights from your home port to Auckland are not included in the journey price. Should you require flights to Auckland, we can provide a competitive quote on airfares and pre and post tour accommodation in Auckland, at the commencement and conclusion of your journey.

Level of Fitness Required – Moderate

This journey is more challenging and designed for the more active traveller who is looking to venture off the beaten path. To fully participate in all activities, the traveller must be able to walk up to 1km on even surfaces unaided, travel by four-wheel drive vehicles along ungraded roads and walk up steps unassisted.  It is a requirement that all children are able to swim confidently.

We strongly urge you to consider the fitness rating before selecting your preferred journey, in respect for your fellow travellers. Bill Peach Journeys reserves the right to refuse travel to any client whose fitness level is below the recommended rating.

We strongly recommend that you purchase travel insurance to cover you against such things as personal illness or accident, cancellation, loss of baggage etc. Please make sure you carry a copy of your Travel Insurance policy with you at all times.
