Bill Peach Journeys is excited to present an adventure of a lifetime in Australia’s rugged Top End. You will explore by land, water and air, stunning waterways, vast  escarpments, crystal clear gorges and incredible wildlife! Viewing the jumping Saltwater Crocodiles at Adelaide River serves as a great introduction to how wild the Top End still is today, while the water lily covered billabong of Leaning Tree Lagoon is testament to its beauty. We cruise the iconic Yellow Waters Billabong in Kakadu for an unforgettable sunset.

Explore this ancient land and it’s rock art of yesteryear along with traditional indigenous artists practicing today. Marvel at the panorama across the Nadab floodplains from Ubirr Rock and explore the East Alligator River. Discover Crocodile Dundee country at Gunlom Falls by day and enjoy drinks and canapés poolside at the luxury Cicada Lodge in the evening. Experience the majesty of Katherine Gorge during our helicopter tour above its 13 gorges and its hidden ancient  mysteries.

Day 1: Arrive Darwin

Arrive into Darwin and transfer to the Mantra on the Esplanade, perfectly located in town. Meet your Journey Director and fellow travellers at a welcome dinner tonight at a renowned multi-award winning restaurant.

Overnight: Mantra on the Esplanade

Day 2: Darwin - Kakadu National Park

We begin our exploration of the Top End at Fogg Dam Reserve which has year round water coverage assuring its position as an important feeding and roosting site for many water birds and other animals.

Next is Adelaide River and its fascinating jumping Saltwater Crocodiles; watch as they project their bodies almost totally out of the water. A short detour off the highway is the beautiful Leaning Tree Lagoon; this Billabong is often covered in water lilies making it a popular quick stop for photographers.

Lunch is at the Bark Hut Inn; this ‘Aussie’ roadhouse was built during the buffalo era and is a reminder of earlier, wilder times. Later, experience one of Kakadu’s icons – a Yellow Water Cruise. This 10sq km pristine environment supports a truly wonderful variety of plants, birds, crocodiles and Top End wildlife. You may see saltwater crocodiles, a Jacana bird walking on water, the magnificent sea eagle or any one of the many other 280 species that call this billabong home. Dinner at the hotel tonight.

Day 3: Arnhem Land

After breakfast we visit Gunbalanya Aboriginal community providing some of the best driving views in the Top End with floodplains, billabongs & the Arnhem Land escarpment. We will tour the Injalak Arts and Craft Centre and have the opportunity to meet and watch traditional local artists in action. We will experience ancient rock art galleries and the traditional culture of the Kunwinjku people. Next we visit the famous Ubirr Rock, a rocky outlook providing spectacular views across the Nadab floodplains. We return to the hotel for dinner this evening.

Day 4: Kakadu National Park – Katherine

After breakfast we visit what is widely known as the most impressive natural swimming pool in Australia, Gunlom Falls, a natural infinity pool overlooking the stunning Kakadu landscape immortalised in the original Crocodile Dundee movie. We transfer to Katherine in time for poolside drinks and canapés at our luxury wilderness home for the next two nights, Cicada Lodge.

Day 5: Katherine

After breakfast at the lodge experience a true Top End adventure – a breathtaking helicopter tour of Nitmiluk Gorge, Katherine including an overfly of all 13 gorges. A memorable lunch today as we cruise a gorge to a private rock art site which adorns the cliff faces receiving cultural insights into this ancient art. Dinner this evening at Cicada Lodge.

Day 6: Katherine - Darwin

After the morning at leisure to enjoy our amazing surrounds, we transfer to Katherine airport for our charter flight to Darwin. Lunch today is at the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory with time to explore. At our farewell dinner tonight we will savour the best of fresh local produce.

Day 7: Depart Darwin

After breakfast we transfer to Darwin airport for our flight home taking with us memories of an incredible Top End adventure.

Pre Tour

Flights from your home port to Darwin are not included in the journey price. Should you require flights to and from Darwin, we can provide a competitive quote on airfares and pre and post tour accommodation in Darwin, at the commencement and conclusion of your journey.

Level of Fitness Required – Moderate

This journey is more challenging and designed for the more active traveller. To fully participate in all activities, the traveller must be able to walk up to 1km on even surfaces unaided and walk up steps unassisted.

We strongly urge you to consider the fitness rating before selecting your preferred journey, in respect for your fellow travellers. Bill Peach Journeys reserves the right to refuse travel to any client whose fitness level is below the recommended rating.
