Transfer from Melbourne Airport or your home in metropolitan Melbourne to the luxurious Westin Hotel. Explore this vibrant metropolis this afternoon at leisure from the Westin Hotel’s prime location, walking distance to many Melbourne attractions and galleries. Your Christmas Eve welcome dinner will be hosted by your Journey Director tonight, a perfect chance to meet your fellow travellers.

Overnight: The Westin Melbourne

After breakfast at leisure, there is the opportunity to attend church services for those so inclined. Lunch today will be a special affair as you join your fellow travellers to revel in the festivity and flavours of a Christmas feast. For those interested, there will be an optional short walk to view the famous Myer Christmas window displays.

Overnight: The Westin Melbourne

Following a leisurely breakfast, transfer to Rippon Lea Estate in the bayside suburb of Elsternwick. Heralded as Australia’s last suburban 19th century estate, Rippon Lea House and Gardens was included on Australia’s premiere heritage listing, the National Heritage list in 2006. Completed in 1868 the house was built for Frederick Sargood who had made his money selling soft-goods on the goldfields. The property was a large, self-sufficient farm with an elaborate underground watering system. Being a Victorian man of vision, the house had its own electricity supply and unusually for its time, it also had internal toilets. A fascinating glimpse into days past in a house where there were seven maids, a butler, seven gardeners, a coachman and a groom.

Today we enjoy lunch with spectacular vistas of the Dandenong Ranges from ‘Skyhigh’. Marvel at views from the Melbourne city skyline to the majestic sweep of Victoria’s Port Phillip Bay. There will also be time to explore the enchanting English garden and hedge maze.

What better way to spend an afternoon than to sample delightful locally produced sweet treats? We will watch European Chocolatiers hand craft some of their 250 different chocolate products at the Yarra Valley Chocolateria and, of course, indulge in a delicious selection of ice creams and chocolates in a private tasting.

Later this afternoon, we arrive at the heritage listed homestead, Chateau Yering. This gracious Victorian mansion sits grandly on a 250 acre historic estate commanding sweeping views across the Yarra Valley to the Great Dividing Range. Your home for the next two nights offers an exclusive and refined ambience to relax and unwind.

Overnight: Chateau Yering Hotel

After breakfast we arrive at Coombe, the former home of famous opera singer Dame Nellie Melba. One of the largest and oldest family estates in the Yarra Valley, it was established in the late 1800’s and it is still owned and operated by her descendents, the Vestey family. Not only will we enjoy the seven acres of beautiful gardens and hedges, we will also learn about the history of this site and its significance to not only the Yarra Valley but to Australia as it pays homage to the life of Dame Nellie Melba and her role in Australian history. We will enjoy lunch at Coombe where the very best of available local produce is used to create a mouth watering dining experience. We will also sample wines from their award winning estate.

More tasting pleasure this afternoon as we visit the multi award winning Four Pillars gin distillery and learn the story behind their remarkable success. An afternoon at leisure with time to prepare for our farewell dinner this evening.

Overnight: Chateau Yering Hotel

After a leisurely breakfast, we transfer to the airport. Saying a fond farewell to new friends, we take away memories of an enchanting Christmas Sojourn in Melbourne and the Yarra Valley.

About Sojourns

Our Sojourn programmes are short break journeys put together in conjunction with themes, events or experiences. These programmes range from cruising New Zealand’s North Islands to world class sporting events and unique experiences throughout Australia and New Zealand.

About Single Traveller Journeys

We recognise the specific requirements of single travellers and that’s why a number of our journeys are single supplement free, affording you the benefit of your own single room, without any, or with significantly reduced extra cost. In this way you can enjoy the camaraderie of your fellow travellers during the day, along with the safety and security of travelling with an escorted group, but still retire to your own personal room in the evening.  Note: The single supplement free offer cannot be taken in conjunction with any other offer.
