Mt Field National Park

Today we explore Mount Field National Park, one of Tasmania's oldest national parks, established in 1916 with Freycinet National Park, and is one of its most popular. This is partly because of its proximity to Hobart but also because of its wide variety of flora, dramatic glaciated landforms and ready accessibility to most areas of the park. This tour features examples of all of the park's attractions including sub-alpine forests, stands of ancient pencil pines, the remarkable cushion plants, glacial moraines and block streams, alpine moorlands, exquisite small tarns and lakes, monolithic dolerite boulder fields, dramatic cliffs and peaks, and stunning views. It provides a wonderful introduction to Tasmania's alpine regions and its flora and topography.

Overnight: Islington Hotel

Todays walk will be 3-4 hours and will be over a well worn track.

HOBART - MARIA ISLAND - FREYCINET

This morning we depart early by light aircraft to Maria Island, where we spend 4-5 hours exploring the island by foot. There are few places on the planet that offer the total tranquility and unspoiled natural beauty of Maria Island. This special place, where the fresh air, the crystal clear waters, the breathtaking beauty and spectacular wildlife will invigorate you. Late afternoon drive to Freycinet.

Overnight: Freycinet Lodge

This day will be a long day in terms of travelling but we believe that this is such a unique opportunity to be able to do a walking tour on Maria Island and the time spent getting there and back will be well worth it. The walk itself will be 4-5 hours over a well worn track.

FREYCINET

Today we do the magnificent Freycinet Walk. Starting with a walk along Hazards Beach we cross the isthmus to the Wineglass Bay. This much photographed bay is a perfect place to take a break before walking to the lookout which is saddled between Mt Amos and Mt Mayson. The climb to the lookout is fairly steep but with many cut steps and places to rest. The view is sensational, and worth the effort. Much of this walk today is up and down slopes and by the time you return and get to have a drink at Freycinet Lodge you feel you have had your daily exercise, along with uplifting scenery and the freshest of air.

Overnight: Freycinet Lodge

This walk takes 4-5 hours and is a combination of a worn track as well as a beach walk and climbing over rocks

FREYCINET - LAUNCESTON

After a leisurely breakfast this morning there is an opportunity for a short walk around the Lodge. After lunch we transfer to Launceston. On arrival in Launceston there will be an afternoon guided walk to Cataract Gorge. The Gorge is the result of violent earthquakes that rattled Tasmania some 40 million years ago. For those of you still wanting to walk there is a lovely guided walk of Tamar Wetlands.

Overnight: Peppers Seaport Resort

The walk today takes a maximum 2 hours and is over sealed paths and well worn tracks

LAUNCESTON - MOLE CREEK NATIONAL PARK - CRADLE MOUNTAIN

This morning we have an early transfer by road to Mole Creek National Park. Today walk along the Parsons Track. Like so many tracks in the area, it has been developed and redeveloped over several generations by the families of early settlers, along with mountain huts constructed as shelters for hunters, trappers and snarers, and timber getters. The strong attachment of current members of those families and others is the reason they are maintained to this day. After a picnic lunch the journey continues through this rugged wilderness and concludes at Cradle Mountain Lodge. With its majestic alpine peaks, and beautiful lakes, it’s no wonder Cradle Mountain is one of Tasmania’s most popular tourist and holiday destinations. This World Heritage National Park boasts some of the most spectacular bush walking in the state.

Overnight: Cradle Mountain Lodge

Today’s walk is 6 hours and involves some steep climbs and climbing over rocks.

Todays walk will include a steep climb to Hanson’s Peak and to Marions Lookout, which is perched on the edge of a high glacier-carved plateau and offers bushwalkers spectacular views over mountain peaks and mirrored lakes.

Overnight: Cradle Mountain Lodge

Todays walks take a maximum of 6 hours.

This morning we depart Cradle Mountain for Liffey Falls State Reserve. The Reserve is nestled within cool temperate rainforest on the slopes of the Great Western Tiers.
