Day 1: ARRIVE HOBART

Today your journey begins in Hobart. Meet your Journey Director and fellow travellers at a welcome dinner this evening.

Day 2: HOBART

After a leisurely breakfast, today we spend the day exploring Port Arthur, the former convict settlement set on top of the Tasman Peninsula. This dark history contrasts with the beauty of the surrounding area. Full of powerful stories of hardship and loss, it is one of Tasmania’s most visited sites.

Day 3: HOBART - STRAHAN

Today enjoy a tour of Hobart before transferring to your private aircraft for a scenic flight over the western coastline of Tasmania. In the afternoon we arrive in Strahan, known as the gateway to two of Tasmania’s renowned wild rivers, the mighty Gordon and Franklin, which meander through the Franklin Gordon Wild Rivers National Park. Lying in the heart of Tasmania’s World Heritage wilderness area, it is a region of spectacular gorges and deep river valleys.

Day 4: STRAHAN - CRADLE MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK

This morning we cruise the world heritage listed Gordon River including Hells Gate, Salmon farms including a guided stop over at Sarah Island before our coach transfer to Cradle Mountain. At the base of Cradle Mountain, in deep depressions cut by glacial action, lies Crater Lake, Dove Lake and Lake Lilla. Cradle Mountain – Lake St Clair National Park, encompassing some 161,000 hectares, covers some of Tasmania’s highest country and is renowned for its magnificent alpine scenery.

Day 5: CRADLE MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK

Today, explore this World Heritage area of rugged mountains, glacial lakes and wild alpine moorlands. An adventure through this spectacular pristine wilderness includes both Dove Lake and Waldheim before spending some time in the Cradle Mountain Wilderness Gallery. The afternoon is at leisure, perhaps giving you an opportunity to stroll through this outstanding National Park.

Day 6: CRADLE MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK – KING ISLAND

This morning fly to King Island and tour this unique island including a visit to the King Island Dairy.

Day 7: KING ISLAND – FLINDERS ISLAND - LAUNCESTON

Depart early morning for your flight to Flinders Island. Located in the waters of Bass Strait, off the north-eastern tip of Tasmania, Flinders is the largest island in the Furneaux Island Group.

This is a group of more than 50 islands that are all that remain part of the land bridge which once joined Tasmania to the Australian mainland. Time to tour the island and enjoy lunch before reboarding the aircraft for a flight to Launceston.

Day 8: LAUNCESTON

Today we take the morning to tour Cataract Gorge and sample some of the boutique wineries scattered along the Tamar River. Enjoy lunch at one of Launceston’s most awarded wineries.

Day 9: LAUNCESTON – FREYCINET

This morning is spent visiting the historic town of Evandale and Woolmers Estate. A local historian will guide you through the homestead and provide some understanding of its nearly 200 year history. As part of the estate you will also have the opportunity to explore The National Rose Garden. In the afternoon we board our aircraft for the onward journey to Freycinet.

Day 10: FREYCINET NATIONAL PARK

This morning take a cruise on Wineglass Bay. Relax on board and enjoy the spectacular surrounds of this remote and stunning part of Tasmania. Explore the rugged coastline with towering pink granite cliffs plunging into the Tasman Sea. There is an opportunity for you to walk on the beach at Wineglass Bay, which is recognised as one of the top ten beaches in the world, or simply relax on board enjoying magnificent surroundings.

Day 11: FREYCINET NATIONAL PARK – MARIA ISLAND - HOBART

The private aircraft awaits this morning to transport you to Hobart. En-route we land at Maria Island for a historic walking tour combining rare Tasmanian wildlife, spectacular scenery, and fascinating history. On arrival enjoy a tour of Hobart before visiting MONA, the most contemporary gallery in Australia. This evening we enjoy a farewell dinner hosted by your Journey Director.

Day 12: HOBART - HOME

After breakfast this morning transfer to the airport for your return flight home. We say a fond farewell to new friends and take away memories of an unforgettable Southern Isles adventure!

Mode of transport

This journey will be operated by a variety of aircraft. All aircraft are perfect for landing in the isolated airstrips throughout this journey. To ensure a variety of viewing for everyone, we change seat allocation each day. The aircraft is operated by an experienced pilot and accompanied by a Journey Director.

Road Transportation

The coaches that we use for the ground component of this journey are fully air-conditioned. There will also be air conditioned 4WD vehicles used in some areas.

Level of fitness required: Moderate

This journey is more challenging and designed for the more active traveller who is looking to venture off the beaten path. To fully participate in all activities, the traveller must be able to walk up to 1km on even surfaces unaided, travel by four-wheel drive vehicles along ungraded roads and walk up steps unassisted.

We strongly urge you to consider the fitness rating before selecting your preferred journey, in respect for your fellow travellers. Bill Peach Journeys reserves the right to refuse travel to any client whose fitness level is below the recommended rating.

Travel Insurance

We strongly recommend that you purchase travel insurance to cover you against such things as personal illness or accident, cancellation, loss of baggage etc. Please make sure you carry a copy of your Travel Insurance policy with you at all times.
